Shrops U17 Boys Win

After a couple of withdrawals through illness and club call ups, we were left with a squad of 15 (with two keepers).

Our draw saw us face Staffordshire first, who only had 9 players, although you wouldn’t have known it. Result 0-0.

Derbyshire next and the boys had all woken up. Ollie (2), Ben and Zak made it a 4-1 win for Shropshire.

Nottinghamshire next and another good show. George (2) and Zak, 3-0 win.

Leicestershire was a harder match. Ollie opened the scoring, before Leicester pulled one back. Zak made it 2-1 in the last few mins to keep up the unbeaten record.

Worcestershire. Ollie scored for us, but the drama wasn’t over cards were shown and for a minute or so there were only 9 players hung on and the match finished a 1-1 draw.

Northamptonshire saw George get a hat-trick of drag flicks and all but sealed the title for Shropshire. 3-0.

Last up were Warwickshire knowing a win would give Shropshire the title. A nervous start was eased when Ollie bagged another two goals and Brad pulled off the save of the day.

Unbeaten Shropshire were crowned U17 Boys Midlands Champions 2022.

Little rural Shropshire top of the tree against the big counties is something to be very proud of.

A big thankyou from me to all the boys. I have really enjoyed being part of the team for the 5 years I’ve been involved as manager. To sign off with a tournament win is amazing.

Thanks to you the parents for the support and the hours you’ve put in driving to matches/training and watching in the wet & cold.

It is with a heavy heart to advise that Brian Rawsthorne, stalwart of Market Drayton Hockey Club and youth hockey within the county passed away at the Severn Hospice on Thursday 20th January 2022.

His funeral is taking place at 11.30am on Thursday 17th February 2022 at Shrewsbury Crematorium.

Welcome back to what hopefully will be a more normal season of County Hockey with coaching and, some matches against other counties. Your response to our coaching offer for season 20 - 21 was fantastic so we hope we are in good position to compete strongly against other Midland Counties in 21-22

The squads will now be based on School years and are as follows;

AC Hockey is now rebadged as County hockey CH. The age criteria have also changed to go by school year.

e mail me with player name and DOB and I will initiate the registration and you will receive an e mail invitation to complete the process.

If you are unable to attend on these dates but are keen to be assessed, please sign up anyway and let me know your first availability.

There is no request for any payment at this stage. Players selected will be charged a seasonal fee which will include assessments.

Players at PC (Performance Centres) or going for PC assessment will automatically have a place in the CH squad.

You will receive further details nearer the time.

PLAYER INFORMATION

Development centres are the first step on the England Hockey Player pathway, they are set up for all boys and girls aged 10-14 who would like to develop their skills beyond school and club hockey.
All players should attend 3 sessions and bring a stick, shin pads, gum shield, a drink and appropriate clothing for the weather. Shropshire hockey guidelines should be followed.
ALL players are required to register via www.playerpathway.englandhockey.co.uk. New players to the system should click ‘New Player to system? Signup’ button. Complete the details and register for the squad that matches the centre you wish to attend:

Summer AC Coaching

Shropshire U13 Girls Summer AC coaching (2008, 2009 birthdays)

As you are aware this has been an odd season of hockey and Shropshire Hockey Association is just glad to be able to provide coaching to our squad players of the future.

We are offering Academy Centre coaching to those U13 Girls who signed up last October to come for assessment for the U13 squad. There will, however, not be any formal assessment. You may well be involved in other club and school sports activities so if you cannot attend it does not matter.

Summer AC Girls U14 / U13 Thursdays

Shropshire will also be offering coaching to U17 U16 U15 and U14 girls at Meole Brace from 12 to 2 on Sundays 16th May and 13th, 27th June. if it is more convenient to join the age group above or you want to do both that is ok. Assign yourself to

There will also be some Development Centre coaching offered to less experienced and younger players, in June, at several venues around the county. Details of this will be circulated in May.

Track and Trace

You have all participated in some Shropshire coaching during Summer/Autumn 2020/ Easter 2021, and are already signed up for, and have consented to the England Hockey track and trace participation agreement.

Fees - Please make your payment as soon as you register for the coaching. If you cannot attend all sessions, that is fine but drop me an e mail with the dates you can attend. Ideally you will attend all sessions but should be available for at least 2 sessions.

Those who are in credit from the cancelled session at Easter can deduct £10 from the fees.

Coaching is £5 per hour. First player pays full price and sibling discount applies as below.

4 x 2 hr sessions - £40 (sibling discount £34)

Shropshire Junior County hockey is cancelled

This is to confirm that there can be no further Shropshire junior county hockey activity until after Feb half term at the earliest, this will depend on government and England hockey guidelines . We will just have to see how things shape up.

Meanwhile, we hope you can all find innovative ways to keep active and can manage some online learning from home. We will be in touch as soon as there is an opportunity to offer some Hockey again, please keep a look out for emails from Shropshire hockey
